Long drive to Delhi - 20 : Murudeshwara Temple, Karnataka

After having early breakfast of upma, idlis with hot filter coffee, we hit the NH 17 which is Edapally-Panvel Road, again & headed northwards to Murudeshwara. Ride was rough due to intermittent rains & road widening work in progress.
Murudeshwara is part of Bhatkal taluka of Uttar Kannada district in Karnataka. The temple is situated on Kanduka Hill surrounded by waters of Arabian Sea on three sides. Plenty of budget & luxury accommodation is available & number of multi cuisine restaurants are available. Sun is hot during the noon despite continuous cool sea breeze. Place can be visited any time during the year.

As soon as we reached there the mammoth Gopura & huge statue of Shiva with backdrop of sea simply overwhelmed us. The Gopura in front of the temple complex is 249 ft & is tallest in the world. It has 22 stories & also has lifts. It has been inaugurated in May 2008. View from the top is awesome. The statue of Shiva is 123 ft high & was built in about two years by Kashinath of Shimoga & team of sculptors. These activites were financed by businessman & philanthropist R N Shetty.
